about
Stefan Breuer (also an active member of Lost Bear and I Am Oak) has been writing, recording and performing as The Subhuman since he was eleven. Always looking for a combination of melody and spacey arrangements, The Subhuman has released lots of records with (sometimes very short) bedroom-indiepop songs. His tunes are sad, hopeful and witty at the same time, with hints of lo-fi, progrock, pop, and electronic music. A World Full Of Melodies (2007) marked the beginning of a collaboration with Snowstar Records, followed by the beautiful 7″ Sur La Route (2009), on which he collaborated with his French friends from Calc, Julien Pras and David Lespes. Besides doing shows in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium and Luxembourg, he continued recording and for art projects and records like Life After Death and All Birds Dream Of Being Human (with The Things We Are). And sometimes putting The Subhuman on hold for a while…
So, with 20 albums, it is time to present The Subhuman 2.0. Still with the same ingredients as mentioned above, but feeling reborn and renewed in a better way. Latest achievement is the poppy Planet Buddha, featuring the song Don’t Push Me Away (#2 Song-Of-The-Year of 3voor12/Utrecht). Currently, The Subhuman is working on Bhava, an epic progpop album based on Hermann Hesse’s classic novel Siddharta. Bhava will be released on Snowstar Records.
